The British Art Prize 2023: Private View

Last night, Artists & Illustrators聽magazine hosted The British Art Prize private view at gallery@oxo, an esteemed London gallery overlooking the Thames.

Every year, artists of all levels submit their artworks to us for the chance to win聽. A major art competition with an international reach, The British Art Prize offers artists 鈥 emerging and experienced creatives alike 鈥 the opportunity to gain valuable exposure and recognition for their artwork.

A shortlist of 50 winners was selected by our brilliant judging panel, including Tom Croft of Portraits of NHS Heroes, internationally acclaimed聽聽artist Jonathan Yeo,聽The One Show鈥檚 Artist in Residence, Adebanje Alade, renowned artist Sarah Graham, Adobe鈥檚 Vice President and MD Suzanne Steel and Niki Browes, the editor of Artists & Illustrators聽 magazine.听

Many of the award-winning artists, along with friends and supporters of聽Artists and Illustrators, came together last night to celebrate at the private view. It was wonderful to see the artworks up close, which only renewed our amazement at the prowess of the winning artists.

Prizes were handed out to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and People鈥檚 Choice聽, followed by speeches each. For her painting聽Tiny Pieces, Lucy Pass won first prize. This expressive portrait, which conveys an incredible depth of emotion, has earned her a 拢2,500 cash prize courtesy of Adobe and a 拢500聽聽gift voucher. That鈥檚 not all. Lucy will also have a feature in a future issue of聽Artists & Illustrators.

Toby Michael was the winner of the second prize for his portrait paintings titled聽Emma Dabiri. With this superb painting, he has won a 拢1,000 cash prize from and 拢500聽聽gift voucher to polish his skills further. In addition to this fantastic cash prize, Toby will also be included in a future issue聽Artists & Illustrators.

The third prize was awarded to Ange Bell for her touching portrait聽Spencer & Co. Ange received 拢500聽聽鈥 a generous gift that will assist in taking her artistic abilities to the next level. Plus, she will be included in a feature within the magazine.

Voted for in the thousands was Titus Agbara鈥檚 large-scale painting,聽In the Spirit of Rushcart, granting him the People鈥檚 Choice Award. His prize includes A 拢1,000聽聽voucher and a feature in the March 2024 issue of聽Artists & Illustrators.
